H&G Nest has TWO chicks.
Kinda hard to see, but the two dark lumps at the brim of the nest and between Mom Godiva and the trunk are chicks.
Dad Petruchio at First Nest seems to be as confused about the way the world is atilt as we are.

From left to right is one of the chicks and then Dad Petruchio;
see what looks like a piece of typing paper above Dad and where the chick is staring… that is Mom Kate’s tail.

I found Dad Petruchio cleaning the nest and being watched by one of the chicks.
He soon left the nest and both chicks watched him go.
A while later, I first found Kate.
Then Petruchio, each on one of their favorite outlook perches.

The egg(s) have hatched at First Nest. In the first photo you can see Mom Kate leaning over to feed her (unseen) chick. IN the other photos you can see Dad Petruchio has brooding responsibility and Mom Kate is bringing in new nesting material for the egg cup. Proud Parents!!!
Jordan Lake: First Nest report
The parent bald eagles, Petruchio and Kate at First Nest, were busy this morning. At one point the parents had a slight disagreement about who should be sitting on the eggs. It was interesting to see their reactions to each other.
Jordan Lake: Human Intruder at Bald Eagle Nest
Bald Eagle Nest WARNING. There was a HUMAN INTRUSION at First Nest today. The intruder was on the shoreline almost beneath the nest, watching the nest and parents. Both parent eagles got very upset and left the nest. They left the eggs uncovered for more than 10 minutes. The scientists say that an egg, in the winter, left uncovered by the warmth of a parent bird for that long could very possibly die. Eventually Petruchio and then Kate returned, both still agitated and it took another 5 minutes before Kate settled on the eggs. PLEASE pass this warning along. 660 feet is the minimum distance a human can be from a bald eagle nest during breeding season. Please respect the bald eagles at Jordan Lake and where ever bald eagles decide to nest. NO sighting or photo is worth the loss of a single bald eagle. 1st photo is Kate, 2nd is Petruchio, both upset at the human intruder.
