I was out on my friend’s boat this morning and this 2-year-old bald eagle stayed put until he didn’t… his launch was so powerful and close to us that I missed the outer edge of his wing. But, I don’t mind that I did, not at all!!!

TagJordan Lake: Lecture Bald Eagle! 4 photos
This morning after I finished my slideshow part of the lecture, we all went outdoors to look for birds. There sat an almost adult bald eagle. Contented to be an eagle and ignore those of us who were thrilled to see him. Ranger Steve McMurray and I sure enjoyed our enthusiastic group for the Going, Going Almost Gone lecture. Here is the eagle from this morning. Keep an eye out for our next lecture in a couple of months.
Jordan Lake: Osprey Family and a Bald Eagle
I have often seen bald eagles chase an osprey who was carrying a fish.
This is the first time I have seen an osprey fledgling (who has been flying for only a few weeks) join in the fray!
Goodness!
Jordan Lake: Bald Eagle First Nest
Yesterday I got to see Momma Kate from a very different perspective. A friend took me into the First Nest Cove on his boat. There was Kate perched not too far below her nest. All bald eagle pairs stay close to their nest all year around, even when they don’t have chicks or fledglings to raise. It was grand getting to see Kate!
Jordan Lake Bald Eagle: Lady Lake
You would think with her brilliant white head and tail, Lady Lake would stand out from any background.
I could see her, but my camera struggled with her brown wings against the green and brown trees.
Even the adult bald eagles are camouflaged … they often manage to stay hidden from both the ospreys who are fishing and me.

Jordan Lake: Momma Osprey Got Angry!
I was tracking dad osprey who had caught a large fish.
Over the shoulders of me and my friend came a swiftly moving very large shadow.
An adult bald eagle was dashing toward dad osprey (unseen here) and wanted his fish.
Momma osprey said no way was the fish that was destined for her fledglings going to go home with the bald eagle.
Dad dashed to the nest while Momma and the eagle pulled some high speed face-offs.
As soon as the eagle was far enough away, Momma Osprey screamed her victory and headed for the nest.
