The 2 year-old bald eagle was sure that every tree in the neighborhood belonged to him and this particular tree was only there for his use.
The fish crow and Dad osprey disagreed with that opinion!

A juvenile red-shouldered hawk was out hunting for breakfast just below the Jordan Lake Dam and on the Haw River.
I followed a little of his hunt. Note his shoulders…they really are red!
Jordan Lake Bald Eagle 08-27-2019
I was out on my friend’s boat this morning and this 2-year-old bald eagle stayed put until he didn’t… his launch was so powerful and close to us that I missed the outer edge of his wing. But, I don’t mind that I did, not at all!!!

This morning after I finished my slideshow part of the lecture, we all went outdoors to look for birds. There sat an almost adult bald eagle. Contented to be an eagle and ignore those of us who were thrilled to see him. Ranger Steve McMurray and I sure enjoyed our enthusiastic group for the Going, Going Almost Gone lecture. Here is the eagle from this morning. Keep an eye out for our next lecture in a couple of months.

Oh the joy of being an osprey fledgling and trying to outfly your sibling!
This pair were matching each other’s wing strokes and twists in the air and chattering about it the whole flight!

I have often seen bald eagles chase an osprey who was carrying a fish.
This is the first time I have seen an osprey fledgling (who has been flying for only a few weeks) join in the fray!
