Jordan Lake. There are two species of crows at the lake. There is the American crow and the fish crow. The easiest way to tell these two very similar species apart is to listen to them. I am certain you know the caw caw of the American crow so here is the fish crow for comparison.

TagRed-Headed Woodpecker and It’s Fledgling
Jordan Lake. Earlier in the season I posted pictures of the parent red-headed woodpeckers. Here is one of the parents and its fledgling! I love the brilliance of the adults, but I also adore the quiet brown essence of the fledgling. The fledgling sticks a neat landing in 2nd photo.

Quizzical Osprey
Jordan Lake: So, Dad osprey landed rather close to me this morning. He grew quite quizzical when observing me. I wondered if he needed a different perspective on the world first thing this morning?

Jordan Lake.

Empress
Jordan Lake. The first time I saw a female osprey my mind said “Empress“. There is something about the mind set and obvious command pulsing from an adult female osprey that brings that imagery of royalty to me. Enjoy this Empress of Jordan Lake.

Well-marked 3-Year-old Bald Eagle
Jordan Lake. While out with Captain Doug we came upon this brilliantly marked 3-year-old female bald eagle. Captain Doug said she sure reminded him of a Grumman Goose… an amphibious flying boat!
