I was visiting Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC, looking to photograph the fall flowers.
A butterfly bush (yes that is its name) caught my attention
as the skippers, cabbage and sulfur butterflies flitted about…
and a single, glowing, male monarch butterfly.
Oh, wow, I thought that all of them had already left for Mexico, their winter home.

Hmm, a much smaller flyer…than the eagles of late.
I found this fellow at the waterfall fountain at the Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC

sometimes the world just seems to tilt and gravity wins…
especially if you are a brown thrasher, soaking wet from the rain, and the feeder is wet too
she recovered just fine, well maybe her dignity didn’t, and glared at me for my laughter

I found the green heron stalking a fish
like his bigger cousin, the great blue heron, this smaller heron was lightening fast
he has a minnow in his bill, just above the splash of water droplets
