Jordan Lake. In the growing light of the sunrise, I don’t know who had the greater curiosity: this adult bald eagle as she studied me or me as I exchanged glances with her. Ah, curiosity!

Jordan Lake: The rugged intent face and well-tested frame of this female bald eagle somehow carries more of an impact to my eyes than just the contrast of white and darkest brown … there comes a sensing of vibrant life inhaled with the air the raptor breathes.
Osprey Fledgling’s Big Fish
Jordan Lake. While cruising with Captain Doug, from far off we could see a huge fish under the talons of an osprey fledgling. She was quite proud of the fish. Captain Doug got us around to where we could see the Osprey’s front. The fish’s head is missing. Most likely one of the parents caught the fish, removed the head and then gave the carcass to her daughter.
Kate is Panting in the Heat
Jordan Lake. Today I was out with Captain Doug and friends and we came across Mom Kate from First Nest. Seeing her pant really brought home just how hot and humid it has been. Birds do not have sweat glands so they keep cool by perching in the shade, panting and hunting food in the early morning and late afternoon.
Godiva Got Soaked
Jordan Lake. I got to the lake right after a thunderstorm had rained hard. Bald eagles hate to get wet. This is mom Godiva straightening out her tail feathers after being thoroughly soaked.

Jordan Lake. The fishing strike of an osprey is so swift that the exquisite maneuvering is difficult to see … I am happy I can share this moment by moment experience with you.
