The house wrens at my home are fledging out their chicks. There are at least three babies. The bird making all the noise is one of the fledglings. The wren popping in and out of the box is a parent. As you can see it’s very hard to keep track of where all your young ones are when they have wings and a whole new neighborhood to explore.

Time for a nature break, and it is at my home. The house wrens had three chicks. This morning all three fledged out. The first one out dropped before finding its wings – its ok. Then the third one in the house helped the second one to fledge. The really sweet one is the last one out… Watch as it decides to go and then decides maybe not to go and then decides maybe it should go and… ultimately flight won the debate.

Definitely not at Jordan Lake! Grayced the Cat, my home companion, wanted to share with you some of HIS birds he watches while Doc is at the lake. This is a pair of House Wrens, cousins to the Carolina wren, getting the nest box ready for eggs and chicks. At this point in the process it is Momma wren that is doing the nest construction. Dad wren dashes about singing his territory song – I wish I could have shared his song with you but the little iPhone couldn’t capture the sound through the picture window. BTW Grayced the Cat has his own Facebook page where he and I occasionally post some of his adventures and good sleep wishes – you can visit his page at https://www.facebook.com/GraycedCat/.
