First Nest
No photo today, but wanted you to know that Kate is on the nest and Petruchio is helping.
They got through all the wind chill and ice just fine.

H&G Nest
Both Hershey and Godiva got through the frozen weather without any problems.
This is Godiva as she flew past carrying a large clump of pine straw and other soft materials for the lining of her nest.
She and Hershey had been in the nest together earlier in the morning.

The bald eagle chick Raisin was branching when dad Hershey arrived with a fish.
Chick Granola had been to the right of the main tree trunk but quickly came for his share of food.
In my experience the father eagles are more prone to feed both chicks at the same time.
The moms tend to feed the largest chick first until it is full and then feeds the smallest chick.
There is a short clip at https://youtu.be/iKL5OhnTpKQ

Bald eagles and their growing chicks thrive on cold windy weather.
On the other hand, doc got kinda sorta wind-blown and chilled today –
but that’s ok because the winds blew the limbs aside and gave me a better view of the nest.
Coffee is on the left, hollering something to H.C. whose back is turned toward us.

H&G Nest
In the wild winds I only managed to get one chick in view – don’t know if it is Granola or Raisin.
Notice that it is starting to replace its grey fluff with dark feathers around its face.

LL&H Nest
It is with deep sadness that I must report that the chick at the LL&H nest has been lost.
When the rangers saw that part of the nest had fallen they did a thorough investigation.
It appears that the north side of the nest had collapsed.  The rangers could not find any remains of the chick.
There had been a really, really rough windy storm in the preceding week and maybe that is what destroyed part of the nest.
My heart, as yours, hopes that Lady Lake and Heritage will do what eagle parents do: come back late this fall, repair the nest and breed again next year.
We will keep an eye on the nest through the coming months and I will add updates of any changes.

doc ellen
I want to say thank you for all the wellness thoughts and prayers for my knee surgery.
My knee is doing great and I sure was happy to finally be back at the lake after 10 days away.

First Nest
All is fine at the nest.
Here is Kate dashing off to go find a breakfast fish for the chicks.

I don’t know what the chick was watching, but it was very intent.

Godiva is on the edge of the nest.  You cannot see Hershey who has incubation duty and is behind the main trunk.
