I found Dad Hershey in the nest, enjoying the golden hour of sunrise. Eventually Mom Godiva flew in and landed on one of their sentinel trees. I didn’t see the chick(s); they have to get a wee bit older and bigger before they will be visible. It sure was great to be able to get out and about on the lake again after all the high water!
Jordan Lake: Bald Eagle Nest Report: H&G NestI watched Dad Hershey go past with a large, rather branched repair stick for his nest. Not more than 200 feet behind him came Mom Godiva. More often than not it is the dad bald eagle that carries the branches and mom who does the reconstruction work. But, I have seen moms carrying sticks and dads hard at work patching the nest. Good to see the work going forward for the breeding season.
Mom Godiva was up in the nest watching Dad Hershey fishing for breakfast for their chick(s). He flew out of sight and mom was hollering at him. I sure hope he caught a fish soon!
This nest is the longest reach for my camera. The first photo is Mom Godiva on lookout. The second photo is Dad Hershey in the nest. He is just to the left of the trunk of the tree; look for his yellow beak just above the nest brim. Bald eagles share incubation and brooding duties. Mom does somewhat more of the incubation duties than dad and she is the one that usually incubates during the night.
Jordan Lake: H&G Nest. Have you ever wanted to just let go? To test the wind? To defy gravity? Hershey did just that this morning in the bronze glow of the golden hour. I envied him.
