HP Bald Eagle Nest, Jordan Lake, is always way ahead of other nests at the lake in producing chicks. Mom eagle is checking out her two chicks who are about 5-6 weeks old. You can see both chicks in the 2nd photo, above the red arrows.

A VERY rare astronomical event is ongoing: 01/25/2025, 6 planets were aligned (Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Saturn, Neptune) on 02/28/2025, a seventh planet, Mercury will join. This will not happen again until 2492! Using my iPhone (I don’t have wide field lens for my Canon)
1) Venus is centered and Saturn lower left 2) is a very bright Venus and stars 3) out west window Jupiter is right of trunk & Betelgeuse of triple spoken infamy upper left. AFTER SUNSET GO OUT! LOOK WEST!!!!!

For such a large bird, bald eagles can sure tuck themselves into what appears to be a small space within a snarl of branches. However, the point of view is misleading. Bald eagle nests have a “front door” and at least one “side door”. As monitors it would be intrusive on this nest for us to approach from any other direction. We quietly monitor this mom eagle incubating her eggs through this crowded window.

The temperature this morning was 25°F. Wind was calm. There were people stationed all around Jordan lake this morning for the quarterly bald eagle count. Just after the count began this morning the sun began to unfurl its textures and mantle the skies in shimmering glory.
Will be posting eagle count totals at a later date.

About one year ago this young eagle was making the transition from being egg-bound to breathing air! This photo was made at Jordan Lake in late December 2024. The eaglet has survived, thrived and is eager to face the next year of life. Happy New Year young eagle!
