the immature red-tailed hawk crossed the line into the nesting territory of the American crow
the defense was immediate and intense; sometimes the crow was chasing, sometimes the hawk would chase
they both crossed the river and were still tangling when I lost sight of them
the purple dead-nettle is a member of the mint family
it is an introduced, non-native, species

this male osprey came in from my left, plowed into the fish, caught the fish with his right talon
he then snapped his wings full up and back and lifted himself and the fish from the river
an unusual viewing angle for me
this is the typical aerodynamic way that an osprey carries its catch
they turn the fish around into this position, mid flight
I watched as, way downriver, Ace snapped this stick from a tree –
then flew past me carrying it back to the nest as building/repairing material.
as I composed this shot, I found myself thinking of my great grandmother’s postcard collection
and then I realized that the eagle was also remembering…
