Jordan Lake Dam Neighborhood: Great Blue Heron

The great blue herons are putting on their breeding plumage.

They glow against the dark rocks of the riprap.

Yesterday we had one Osprey at the Jordan Lake Dam. Today we have two.

Yesterday the osprey was a male and today the flier is a female.

I heard the osprey calling before I saw her.

What a beautiful necklace she is wearing!

With the longed for sunshine this afternoon, came the first Osprey of the year!

The sky dancers have begun to return to fish the Haw River below the Jordan Lake Dam.

I think that we are all getting tired of grey skies and winter rain.

Even this 4-year-old bald eagle is looking extra grumpy and very bedraggled with all of his feathers dripping wet.

It only takes one fish.

Plus the desire of 3 immature bald eagles to steal that fish.

To make a fine photographic opportunity for me.

While the eaglet on the top right makes a dash for the trees, hoping to keep his fish.

I found myself laughing about this photo that I made yesterday at the dam.

Thought it would be good to pass the laughter along on this grey winter day!

The immature bald eagle apparently got tired of the adult eagle yelling.
