Jordan Lake. The great egret came floating in about 50 feet above the water when it suddenly headed down and started to dance on the surface. He was looking hard to his left but I couldn’t see what had his attention. He danced a moment or two and then headed back to the shoreline.

TagGreat Egret MoonWalk
Jordan Lake. A great egret does a MoonWalk! How often do you see a bird walking backwards? I have seen the occasional crow step backwards a couple of steps. Woodpeckers certainly back down trees. I’ll confess I had never seen a great egret backing up. I don’t know what he was chasing… ended up looking like a chunk of bark.

Jordan Lake. The following critters show up as brief clips from this morning: adult chipping sparrow feeding its fledgling, immature red-headed woodpecker, blue-gray gnatcatcher, American crow, American goldfinch, pennant dragonfly, great egret and an osprey. I hope you enjoy these little pieces of my morning!
Doc Ellen’s Evening Note 10/07/2022
Jordan Lake: I found myself very much in need of some peace and tranquility this evening. I went back to this morning’s cruise with Captain Doug and brought up this great egret and then let the 12-year-old child within me have a hand in making this note and reminder that peace, contentment and tranquility are needed throughout this whole world. Have a blessed evening.

Great Egret Flight
Jordan Lake. Thought I would share with you a close-up of the great egret that adorned this morning’s Natural Minute. Hope you enjoy his flight!

Doc Ellen’s Natural Minute 09/12/2022
Jordan Lake. A lovely Great Egret floats into the natural minute and brings the haze of the pre-dawn sun with it. Take care, be safe, stay well.
