All 3 of the Eagle Nests we have been monitoring together are mostly intact.
There is some damage to 2 of the nests.  Please see my notes on each nest as to my best guess for future use.
We will know by the beginning of December if the parents decide to repair the nests.
Now to hope that Hurricane Michael doesn’t cause more damage.

First Nest – home of Kate and Petruchio
The surrounding trees and the nest tree appear to have lost some small branches.
I cannot see any major damage to the nest and its tree.
Remember, however, that I can only see one side – that is always true.

H&G Nest – home of Hershey and Godiva
Their nest, its tree and surrounding trees seem to be just as they were before the storm.

Ranger Nest – home of Mom and Dad Ranger

This nest and its tree had the most damage.
There had been a long branch to the left of the nest; it had fallen before the hurricane.
Some of the left edge of the nest appears to have been disrupted.
Some of the smaller branches of the nest tree have also dropped.
There will need to be a lot of repair by the parents and I will be watching closely starting in December to see if the nest will be reused.

Dear Friends:
H&G bald eagle nest
Godiva and Hershey started the breeding season with triplets. Eventually we all realized that 1 of the chicks was missing. We don’t know what happened to the third chick. This nest is at one of the longest distances for any of the monitors to see. We are sad that the 3rd chick did not make it. However, the GOOD news is that the other two H&G chicks made it to fledging and are out and flying. I keep trying for a photo of both of them and will post if I manage it. Thank you for all your support, prayers and input on the H&G Nest.
First Nest eagle nest: I saw Resolute of First Nest chasing about her cove just the other day.
I am still following the Ranger bald eagle nest and 2 different osprey nests and will continue to post photos and stories so you all will know how they are doing.
Peace and Grace, Doc Ellen

First Nest

Resolute has FLEDGED!
I didn’t get to see the first flight which I think occurred on Friday.
I did get to catch this much of Resolute’s flight this morning.  She was about 500 feet from the nest.
The fledging occurred when Resolute was 12 weeks of age.
Hopefully I will be able to catch the newest flier at the lake out in the open soon and get a photo for all of you.

First Nest
Resolute is going ever higher up in the nest tree.
Preparing for that first flight.
In the photo, Resolute had gotten up in the tree and dad Petruchio showed up with a fish.
Resolute wanted the fish but couldn’t quite figure out how to get down into the nest.
Finally, the chick just let go and fell down into the nest and onto dad.
Yep, there was quite a ruckus!
In the video you will see Resolute trying out all kinds of new perches.
