Learning to fish is required to live.
This 2016 bald eagle fledgling at Jordan Lake is determined.
And she succeeds at the strike.
She is about 9 – 10 months old.

Tagwhat the heck?
It was about 20 minutes after sunrise, the golden hour was tinting everything with brass.
Godiva, the mother of the H&G nest, appeared and dove on what looked like, to me and apparently to her, a fish.
She pulled out after grabbing the object with one talon and then instantly releasing it.
She circled, took a second look, and didn’t try again to catch the “fish”.
You can see the “finned” white object about 12 feet to the left of Godiva. I still don’t know what it was.
I just know Godiva wasn’t going to waste any more time on the “non-breakfast” item.

UPDATE on Permit Rule Changes proposal. The filing period ended July 5. I and 1,822 others (both private and organizations) submitted our thoughts and suggestions on the proposed rules.

eagle family report: 4/1/2016 Kate & Quizzical
The breeze had been gently bouncing Kate, perched at the end of the peninsula.
Then she was across the cove, fishing.
Quick turn around and Kate was at the nest feeding Quizzical.
Hershey’s challenge
I watched, amazed, as Hershey the smallest male bald eagle on the lake set his talons and took this huge carp.
Hershey weighs about 10 pounds. The common carp weighs at least 2 pounds.
Hershey never got the fish more than 3 feet above the water.
He essentially crashed landed on the shore and flopped over on the fish.
He stood up, jumped all over the carp, and eventually left the carp on the shore.
This is the only time I have seen any eagle take a carp!
