Jordan Lake: Captain’s Nest report

By neighdoctor January 11, 2020 Jordan Lake: Captain’s Nest report

Mom Bald Eagle at Captain’s Nest went to gather a stick, in a mid-air pickup, for the nest repair needed before she lays her eggs.  The stick did not cooperate at all!

Jordan Lake: Bald Eagle Dance

By neighdoctor January 8, 2020 Jordan Lake: Bald Eagle Dance
Out of the trees, over my head, burst a 2-year-old bald eagle. She saw me, and like most youngsters of her age, decided to show me just how much sky she could own and how many twists she could display. Enjoy!

Jordan Lake: H&G Nest

By neighdoctor January 6, 2020 Jordan Lake: H&G Nest

Jordan Lake: H&G Nest. Have you ever wanted to just let go? To test the wind? To defy gravity? Hershey did just that this morning in the bronze glow of the golden hour. I envied him.

I was working my way downslope when through the trees I saw Ranger Dad, glowing in the sunrise, heading for the nest. He had barely gotten to the nest when Ranger Mom flew in with a stick for the repairs needed before she lays her eggs later this month.

Jordan Lake: 3-year-old bald eagle

By neighdoctor January 3, 2020 Jordan Lake: 3-year-old bald eagle

Usually bald eagles carry things such as a fish or a stick for the nest with their talons. Sometimes however, they readily, easily pick things up with their powerful beaks. This beautifully marked 3-year-old bald eagle brought his fish to his eating perch by carrying it with his beak.

Jordan Lake: First Nest report

By neighdoctor January 1, 2020 Jordan Lake: First Nest report

The parent bald eagles, Petruchio and Kate at First Nest, were busy this morning.  At one point the parents had a slight disagreement about who should be sitting on the eggs.  It was interesting to see their reactions to each other.
