The osprey fledgling manages to catch a fish but has some trouble keeping it safe and secure where he can eat it. This is the same osprey fledgling that gave us his expressions in yesterday’s slideshow.

Ospreys have very animated faces. The fledglings get very expressive. This one flew in and surveyed the scene, glanced at me and went back to watching the lake for a fish to catch.
Hershey and Godiva are one of the mated pairs of bald eagles at Jordan Lake. This morning, while Hurricane Dorian was still off SC and we were just starting to get some good gusts, Godiva called out to Hershey, challenging him to a chase in the strengthening wind. By the way, Hershey is the light brown eagle (he is named after the chocolate bar) and Godiva is the normal dark brown of a bald eagle.
The 2 year-old bald eagle was sure that every tree in the neighborhood belonged to him and this particular tree was only there for his use.
A juvenile red-shouldered hawk was out hunting for breakfast just below the Jordan Lake Dam and on the Haw River.
I followed a little of his hunt. Note his shoulders…they really are red!
