Jordan Lake. A bald eagle floated across as I was making the video for this morning. I don’t know which adult it was. I was sure hoping it would turn around and come back and we could get a second look at it, but we will have to make do with the first pass only. Have a blessed day, take care, be safe.

Jordan Lake. H&G nest. Dad Hershey collected a stick for his nest repair. Then a fledgling bald eagle wanted to see what the adult eagle was doing. I think that the fledgling bald eagle may well have been from the H&G nest this year. Dad Hershey most likely would not have tolerated an unrelated immature bald eagle that close and would not tolerate it by this December.

Doc Ellen’s Natural Minute 10/15/2022
Jordan Lake. Bald eagles relish the challenge of cold turbulent wind. Mom Kate at First Nest was certainly enjoying herself. She danced while I braced against the same wind.
Reflection …
Jordan Lake. I didn’t really expect to get any useful shot of this bald eagle. I was standing on top of the Jordan Lake Dam … 15 minutes after sunrise. There was mist coming off the lake and the sunlight was making a glaring mirror of the water. I was very startled to find that the reflection almost gives you more of the bird than the actual eagle. The photo is not in focus but I have certainly been focused on how sometimes a photo happens just because it does.

Early!
Jordan Lake. They have arrived … early! These are pied-billed grebes. I usually don’t see them until mid November. They are migrants who come down and spend the winter with us before they return north to their breeding waters. I think they’re darn cute.

Doc Ellen’s Evening Note 10/07/2022
Jordan Lake: I found myself very much in need of some peace and tranquility this evening. I went back to this morning’s cruise with Captain Doug and brought up this great egret and then let the 12-year-old child within me have a hand in making this note and reminder that peace, contentment and tranquility are needed throughout this whole world. Have a blessed evening.
