First Day of Spring in the Jordan Lake Neighborhood

It was wet, grey, windy and the eagle nests hard to photograph, so …

A very wet bedraggled Cooper’s hawk paused on a post to try to dry his feathers.

The maples were resplendent with their winged seeds.

And a single raindrop caught my attention as it glittered against a dark green boldly veined leaf and reflected the surrounding trees.

First Nest

Dad Petruchio wanted a new branch for his nest repair. He eyes just which branch. Walks up to it, measures it with his feet and his beak. The pesky crow isn’t helping. And Mom Kate is heard offscreen hollering for Petruchio to hurry.  He has to be sure his flight path is clear or he will tangle himself up with the branch and the tree. He launches ….

First Nest

Kate is on the left, Resolute is peeking out from under tree limb to her right and Petruchio is on the right.

The video is a series of clips from the morning I spent with First Nest.

Activities included bringing in a fish, nest repair, Kate and Petruchio in an eagle chatter duet, and Resolute playing.

H&G Nest

SURPRISE!!!!!!
There are 3 chicks in the H&G nest. Usually bald eagles have 2 chicks each year.
Godiva and Hershey are working hard to keep them fed.
In the video, you will see Nor’easter to the right.
Then the medium chick Gale shows up to the left.
Don’t blink because the smallest chick Breeze pops up in front of Gale for just 2 eye blinks.
Am sorry that I can’t get better video for all of you – the wind and long distances task me and my equipment.
