Almost as important as eyes looking down for fish,
is the osprey’s eyes sweeping upward, scanning for a marauding eagle.

This bluejay makes a bright blue splash against the green pine needles –
even though the bluejay’s feathers have no blue pigment…our eyes are fooled into seeing the bird as being blue.

One sure harbinger of autumn for me is the appearance of the tiny calico asters.
The bloom is about the size of a quarter.
tasty morsel?
Mink are known as fierce predators and I have glimpsed them at the lake.
But I didn’t expect to see one contemplating the dawn sun as perhaps a tasty morsel…
