Jordan Lake. Oh my. I looked up and across the Haw River, at the dam, and what did I see? I do believe it is a female long-leg leaf bear! Least ways, I think that’s what it is… But then… sometimes Doc Ellen‘s imagination gets well used… Hope you enjoy the new species!

Jordan Lake: The rugged intent face and well-tested frame of this female bald eagle somehow carries more of an impact to my eyes than just the contrast of white and darkest brown … there comes a sensing of vibrant life inhaled with the air the raptor breathes.

Jordan Lake. While cruising with Captain Doug, from far off we could see a huge fish under the talons of an osprey fledgling. She was quite proud of the fish. Captain Doug got us around to where we could see the Osprey’s front. The fish’s head is missing. Most likely one of the parents caught the fish, removed the head and then gave the carcass to her daughter.

Jordan Lake. On rare occasions I see a snowy egret at the lake. These brilliantly white birds breed in our mostly coastal areas and visit inland in small numbers. Note the very yellow “gloves” on its feet which are a great field identification.
