Either I was slow with my reactions, or, wood ducks are very fast. Come to find out, they easily cruise at 50 mph which is probably why I had to track them three times across the cove before I got a couple of photos. And, yes, the drake’s eye really is red. I also like the white eye-liner teardrop of the hen.

CategoryJordan Lake, Bald Eagle Captain Nest: I Am The Fastest…
All parents, be they human or eagle, need an occasional break from parenting duties. Captain Mom came zipping past the nest with Captain Dad not far behind her. They flew hard and fast down the cove trying to be the first eagle to the tree. I think Captain Dad, the lower eagle, just barely won the race!
Jordan Lake: South Cove Ospreys, Nest Repair
The pair of ospreys have been repairing their old nest, getting it ready for egg laying and the next generation. Dad osprey goes hunting for a stick, finds one and then has to fight the wind to get it into the nest. He gets the stick to the nest and Mom osprey then begins the work of weaving in the branch. Cooperation!!!

Jordan Lake: Oh, I Don’t Know…
While working on my archive project, I remembered this photo from this morning. I swear this Northern Mockingbird has the exact same expression on his face that I’ve had on my face for at least the past month! Just wondering if any of y’all recognize yourselves in his expression as he goes almost cross-eyed as he surveys this eccentric human being watching him… as she is wondering what tomorrow will bring.
