The ospreys have returned!
This is a female and her catch; her mate was fishing too.
It is a long migration flight for them – North Carolina to South America twice a year.
difference
The difference of a year in age can make a striking change in the color patterns of a bald eagle.
The bird up top is a 3 year old and the lower bird is a 4 year old.
upside down
Eagles, being eagles, especially a young exuberant two year old bald eagle,
often defy gravity: yes, the juvie is upside down.
He was flying along, started a series of dives and rolls, and I caught his joy in his maneuvers.
too round?
perhaps this fish was just too round for the juvenile bald eagle to hold onto…
hermit thrush
My friend had taught me the call of the hermit thrush because you way more often hear a hermit thrush than see one.
And so, I was watching black vultures when I heard, looked and then saw this lovely bird.
