Sharp bill splitting the air in front of her, the female belted kingfisher flashed past me.

Pied-billed grebes would rather dive or run on the water to escape problems than to fly.
This immature grebe carefully watched me but made no attempt to flee.

I ached to grow wings and join these two immature bald eagles as they played in the heavens above me.
