Come meet the Photographer

at the Jordan Lake Recreation Area Visitor Center

New photo gallery donated by Ellen Tinsley aka doc Ellen, will showcase the Bald Eagle. Doc Ellen is a retired veterinarian who has turned to nature photography as a new past time.  She spends numerous hours each week around the lake.  These are fantastic photos of our national emblem and is a must see for any birder or eagle enthusiast.  The best part, these eagles reside right here at Jordan Lake!

“My privilege is to watch, record the bald eagles almost daily and share my field notes with the rangers and scientists.  My gift to all of you, in thanks for the hours so gratefully and joyfully spent with the eagles of Jordan Lake is, in part, this gallery.”doc ellen

Visitor Center will be open from 2-4pm and doc ellen will be on hand for any questions.

moon oft reminds
mystery sublime
mother for very first time
father full of Abba’s duty

star rising east
pales moon mist clouded
heavens foretell life shrouded
my heart weeps for their unseen loss

Bethlehem hills
as donkey nears gate
careful of rider’s slight weight
seem to call tired trio home

tis birthing eve
journey now distilled
parents’ vows will be fulfilled
manger and promised birth await

Christmas Blessings to you this night and all through the year

The Bonaparte’s gull was all wrapped in fishing line.
Scot made an experienced cast with a broken-off fishing rod that A.C.E. Ranger Lane provided from lost and found.
He snagged the gull, reeled it in and TJ gently untangled the bird….

It took 4 hands to untangle all the fishing line.

Just released, the gull floated away.

The Bonaparte’s gull rested a while and then was back in the air looking for fish.

I was leaving the farm where I had worked on some horses.
The bright mahogany red breast feathers of a red-shouldered hawk gleamed in the late afternoon light.
Quickly I threw my truck into park and jumped out, camera in hand.
What a beautiful way to end the day.

Pair of northern harriers: the “grey ghost” as he is known in the birding world and his mate.
The light bird, the “ghost” is the male.
Note how he indeed looks like a “ghost” of the beautifully colored female harrier.
What isn’t shown here is the topside of the grey ghost which is a subtly grey, elegant set of feathers.
I think he is called a ghost for the grey topside, the pale ghosting image of his bottom side and…
the grey ghost is elusive and seldom noticed.
The Grey Ghost has long been on my bucket list…now to get a portrait on him perched on a post displaying his grey topside…
